"Research Ethics 101 for Burlesque Community Members" Força & Loretta Jean
A primer in research ethics - catered specifically to the nuances and complexities of burlesque performance communities.
Course Experience Level: All
Course Description: Created to be accessible to researchers and learners of all levels, this class is a primer in research ethics, catered specifically to the nuances and complexities one needs to think through when conducting research in and about the burlesque community.
Co-instructed by Força and Loretta Jean, both PhD candidates, this class draws upon the knowledge we have gained through the process of conducting fieldwork and interviewing members of the burlesque community during our dissertation research. As practitioners/researchers, we understand it as part of our duty to meaningfully share the cultural contributions of our artform in ways that benefit and serve its community members. We approach our own work from an intersectional feminist perspective and anti-oppressive framework.
In this lecture, we share key take-aways and best practices from our research and tips for ensuring you are being as ethical as possible when conducting your own research.
